Crummell School

1911-1972

The school was an African-American high school for decades and was a gathering place for the community.

Current view

The school sits boarded up, awaiting a new purpose.

Over the years, the Crummell School has been on the chopping block by DC government.  It was proposed for demolition and construction of a bus depot.  However, that plan was quashed, and there are plans for the site to be used as a community center.

Multipurpose use

DC chose Stonebridge Carras/Ocean Pro Properties to redevelop Crummell School site.

The site will include 35,000ft of industrial space, 22,000 of retail space, and 320 residential units - 60 of which will be designated as affordable housing.  At time of this writing, an optional community center, day care, health clinic, and culinary school are planned.  Will these important community services be left out?
